Receiving the Spirit

Galatians 3:2 says
"This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?"

For most part we quote the verse this way.
"Have we received the Spirit by works of the law or by faith”
But what we quote is wrong. Paul is very clear in his question “Have we received the Spirit by works of the law or by the hearing of faith
Notice the words “hearing of faith”.

I remember a friend of mine he was desperate to receive the gift of tongues. He saw his friends who believed in Jesus after him receive the gift of tongues. His desparation led to frustration.
Few of my so called intelligent friends took him all places for pastors and leaders to pray for him so he would receive tongues, when he did not it only increased his frustration. He given up all hopes about receiving the gift of tongues. It started to hurt him when he heard “tongues is the basic and also the most powerful of the gifts”

All my friend here was asked to do or made to believe was that it was by faith. But what most of his well wishers forgot was that Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. In Paul's question too he speaks about receiving the Spirit by hearing of faith.

Look at Peter when he was preaching at Cornelius's house. Scripture says in Acts 10:44
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word...
and it continues in Acts 10:46 that
They heard then speak with tongues and magnify God
The same friend of mine was attending a retreat with me. This man of God who was preaching this retreat spoke of receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. For him the primary concern was not receiving the gift but hearing the word of God and he encouraged us all in the word of God.

At the end of the retreat when we were praying all of them in that hall spoke in tongues. Yes, even this friend of mine.

He had to wait 6 years to hearing the word and know the truth. I wrote this blog to reach out to people with the truth.

So it is not by faith but by hearing of faith that we receive the Spirit.

“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
 The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”’

You can make it through

There are lots of questions lingering on our minds today. We ask a lot of times "How could God be pleased with me???? I am such a sinner!!!!" and there are so many poetic ways we say the same thing. It all can be summarized as "That we don't believe God is happy with us, we do not believe that He is pleased with us" Go back a few years; to when you were a child, recollect the kind of thoughts you had "Oh my I fought with my brother/sister, I think Santa Claus is not gonna give me a gift this time" or when you did something terribly wrong and your relative just made a totally unwarranted statement "This boy IS like this, what will happen to him if he grows up" in response your parents beat you black and blue instead of consoling you because their ego was hurt by that statement of your relative Here we are, thinking we are mature and grown up, still entangled in the same thought. We even start to think God is not doing anything in m...

Heart, where your treasure is

Mathew 6:19-21 “ Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal, For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” M ost of us read this passage and move ahead because we do not understand and worse draw conclusions which leave us in bondage. We end up thinking oh my God I have been laying up treasure in the wrong place. What we fail to understand is that this passage is speaking of the finished work of Jesus and we living in the finished work of Jesus. You might be wondering “How on earth is this passage speaking of the finished work of Jesus??????” Well, lets see!!!! T he primary purpose of this passage is not where we lay up the treasure instead it is Jesus' desire that we are in the right place, that our heart is in the right place. B efore we get to t...

Grace

What is grace? Most of us would answer its the blessing that God gives us, it is the power that God pours into our hearts, its the healing that God does and we have so many other definitions for grace. In Ephesians 3:8 we have Paul saying "Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the gentiles..." It is very clear from this scripture that God does not give us grace to preach the gospel instead it is a grace that God is asking us to preach the Gospel. As unworthy as we are we do not deserve to know the secrets of the kingdom but God in His infinite love chooses to reveal to us these secrets that He had hidden in Him through out, "To them God has chosen to make known among the gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory" Col 1:27 This is grace that a mystery so deep and enriching was revealed to sinners whom God chose to save through His son Jesus. We ofte...
